Come On Get Unreleased Songs

Today I offer a Partridge Family bootleg. What's that you ask, a Partridge Family Bootleg?!?!? Yes. I have no idea where I got this but I've had it for some time. At least ten years. It was a CDR that a friend of mine sent me back in the day when recordable CDs were the new novelty. It has no official name so I have always referred to it as "The Partridge Family Bootleg". It is pretty much a collection of songs that were on the TV show but never released. There are no track titles but you can figure out what songs are what by listening to it. For example, I know the first track is a cover of the old Everly Brothers hit, "Crying in the Rain" (written by Carole King). Anyway, it is pretty cool and I hope you like it as much as I do. Enjoy!

Here is an issue of the comic book adaptation of "The Partridge Family". Like several episodes of the series and a bunch of the novelizations of the show, this one features the family band driving into a creepy ghost town. Apparently this was a plot line that never got old. It also features a couple of other stories as well as some cool ads for books "written by" David Cassidy and Susan Dey. Enjoy!

The February of Frank: Sinatra's Other Duets Album (re-post)

We all know about the 1994 Duets album that Frank Sinatra put out. It was huge! It spawned a sequel and once again cemented Frank's place in pop music. It also spawned some great parodies on SNL and elsewhere. However, this album that I present to you now is also called Duets but it is drawn from performances of the 40s and 50s featuring Frank and others such as Louis Armstrong, Judy Garland, Doris Day, Yvonne DeCarlo, Lena Horne, Shirley Jones, Natalie Wood, Tony Bennett, George Burns, Jimmy Durante, Eddie Fisher, Van Johnson, Gene Kelly, Robert Mitchum, and Robert Merrill & Dean Martin. This comes from my father's huge collection of Sinatra records. This "unofficial release" came out in 1984 (10 years prior to the other Duets). These duets are from radio and television and believe it or not, they sound fantastic. Here is "The Frank Sinatra Duets". Enjoy!

The Best of The World of Wonder: A Little Ditty About Jack and Shirley

After their 1956 marriage, movie musical star Shirley Jones and stage musical star Jack Cassidy recorded a duet album of operetta songs, Speaking of Love, and a studio-cast album of Brigadoon for Columbia Records in 1957. In 1959, they returned to Columbia for With Love From Hollywood, a companion piece to Speaking of Love in which they revived songs from Hollywood movies released between 1934 and 1948, songs written by Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, George & Ira Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Ted Koehler, Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Rodgers & Hart. Jones, who had a history with Rodgers & Hammerstein, beautifully interpreted their "It Might as Well Be Spring" from State Fair as a solo, while Cassidy on his own had fun with Porter's "Nina" from the underrated score to The Pirate. Frank DeVol (TV's Happy Kine) treated the songs for what they were, movie songs, employing alternately playful and lushly sentimental string-filled arrangements. Here is that great album! Enjoy!
