Marvel Strikes Back

I remember being a kid and going shopping at a mall with my parents. My dad and I hit the record and book stores while my mom and sister went looking for girlie items. At the book store, I used my allowance money that I had saved up to purchase the paperback version of the Marvel Super Special of The Empire Strikes Back. A book I still own to this day. When I excitedly showed my mom and sister, my sister's response was "Why would you waste your money on that?". At this, my dad came to my defense with "He found a bargain. It was on sale and he saved a dollar. That's smart shopping." In all fairness, that was coincidence. I just bought it because I wanted it and I had money in my pocket. But I still appreciated my dad coming to my defense. Now that my sister has a 6 year old who is obsessed with Star Wars, I always smile smugly and get a great feeling when I happen to see the occasional Star Wars item that she spent HER money on. The Comic Side of Indiana Jones

Following up my last post of "The Story of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", today I present the Marvel comics adaptations for both "Raiders of The Lost Ark" and "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom." When the films came out, Marvel put out their adaptations on the news stands. Each film came to the colorful pages of Marvel in both a 4 part edition and a Super Special edition featuring the whole story. The Super Special Editions were considerably larger than a normal comic book and were much cooler to own. Not only that, you didn't have to spend as much money to get the complete story. I share with you both of those Super Special Edition Movie Adaptations. Here is "Radiers of The Lost Ark" and "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom" in their comic incarnation! BTW, I will never refer to "Raiders" as "Indiana Jones and The Raiders of The Lost Ark". It will always be "Raiders of The Lost Ark" to me and I refuse to use the "new" title. Enjoy the comics!

A Classified Comic

I, like most people, favor Sean Connery as James Bond. But Roger Moore holds a strong second in my book. (Daniel Craig was great in Casino Royale but Quantum of Solace knocked him down a few pegs). Moore was my generation's Bond and he held the reigns of what I consider to be the golden era of the Bond franchise. Back in the late 70s and early 80s, a Bond film coming out was more of an event than it is today. Actually, any film's release was more of an event than today. Back then, the opening song was just as important as the film and the onslaught of the 80s color schemes and fast paced action were perfect for Bond. The best of the Moore films is, in my humble opinion, "For Your Eyes Only". Not only did it sport an amazingly seductive theme song from Sheena Easton, but it also featured a full onslaught of movie-tie-in items. One of the cooler ones was a two part comics adaptation put out by Marvel. I was so excited to get the comic book version that I only bought the first one and was deeply saddened by the "To Be Continued" bumper at the end. I didn't get the second half until many years later when I found it at an antique store in New Hampshire for the much loved price of fifty cents. It's a pretty cool, albeit, heavily edited version of the film. I present it to you now. Here is the Marvel Comics adaptation of "For Your Eyes Only". Enjoy!
