The 25 Posts of Christmas: Day 13

Here is one of my favorite thrift store finds. I found this one up in Canada in November of 2006 along with pretty much the entire Mini-Pops collection for about $1 each! In case you don't know, Mini-Pops was the 80s equivalent of Kidz Bop! The Mini-Pops were actually an import from England where they had their own show on BBC 4. It consisted of music performances on a brightly coloured set, featuring preteen children singing pop music hits of the time as well as older classics. The children were usually made to look like the original performers, including the clothing and make-up. While embraced by children who loved the idea of ordinary children singing and dancing as they did along with their favourite songs, the show sat uneasily with some adults, prompting one such critic to call the show 'MiniWhores'. (leave it to adults to make controversy where there really isn't) Despite the ratings success, all of this caused the show a rapid cancellation. A number of albums were released, however, which did very well in Canada. Over the past few years, these albums have become heavily sought after by collectors. I present their Christmas album for you now! Enjoy!

You are a GOD! I have spent so much time looking for this cd. My mother owned the tape and I spent my entire childhood listening to these songs. I was lucky enough to listen to it at Christmas back home, but the rest of December was just not the same without the mini pops. When three years ago the tape finally bit the dust we thought that was the end of the mini pops forever. Thank you so much for these songs. You are going to make our Christmas this year and many more down the road!

Could you please do this for the rest of the MiniPops records? Did you find 'Magic Jukebox' by chance?

Thanks so much for putting this up!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This album was a HUGE part of Christmas memories for my sister and I. Both of us have been trying to find the album for years, since both our tapes and records have been destroyed by use. You're amazing!!!!

This has been a Christmas tradition to play Mini-pops. Thank you so much for posting it.

My sister and I especially loved it and we had it on cassette and it got lost or misplaced after she passed away. Now our family can keep the tradition going and my sister can sing along in heaven with us.

Sweet! I'm trying to fill my iPod with all the Lp's, 45s, cassettes, and CD's that I used to own. This was my first ever CD, circa '91, a gift from my grandma. I think she found it in the bargain bin at Overwaitea.
